Large upgrade of the reporting tool: What will change?

Connexys has carried out a large upgrade of the reporting tool on the 7th and 8th of February. Several changes have been made to the upgraded version of the reporting tool: functionalities have been added; buttons are placed elsewhere; chart possibilities have been expanded; and the lay out has been changed. The most significant changes will be discussed in this article.

Saved user and organisation reports will still be available in the renewed reporting tool after the upgrade. However, changes to saved reports during the upgrade won’t be available after the upgrade. The reporting tool will be reduced available during this weekend.

Workshops
On Tuesday, February 24th, we organize two workshops to get acquainted with the new reporting tool. During this workshop the new functionalities will be explained and you will have the necessary tools and knowledge to take full advantage of the different reporting options. We will also help you to generate reports with data you would like to report and how to generate these reports. Click here to register for one of the workshops: morning or afternoon.

What changes?

The most significant changes are:

  • Directly setting input controls
  • Lay out of the tool bar
  • Setting filters
  • Switching between display data
  • Creating your own calculated fields

  • Directly setting input controls (time period of the report)

When a report is opened and not all data is being shown at once, a pop up field will appear. This is an extra warning that your report contains a selection of data. In this field you can choose for which time period you would like to generate the report.

  • Lay out of the tool bar

The tool bar has been changed compared to the old version. More options are available and the style has been changed. The renewed canvas options selector (cogwheel) allows you to control the level of detail displayed in your table or chart. For example, you can choose to display a table containing only totals. This results in a quick overview of the total amount of registrations per month.

  • Setting filters

Filter panels are no longer automatically unfolded. To unfold the filter panel, click on the icon on the right side of the screen. The way of filtering has also been changed. When you create a filter, it now directly shows how it filters. For example, when using a text filter, it’s immediately visible if the filter is looking for fields that ‘start’ with the entered text or for fields that ‘contain’ the text.

A filter is no longer being applied immediately after it has been created. First you need to click on the ‘Apply’ button. If multiple filters are being used, it’s now possible to determine how these filters need to be combined. For example, you can set that a field needs to comply with filter 1 and 2, or with filter 3. This is called Custom Filter Expression.

  • Switching between display data

Data can be selected on multiple levels in the renewed reporting tool, which is also being shown directly in the chart. If you switch from crosstab to chart, the display will now stay the same. For example, if you selected that results should be shown per month this will remain when switching to another view. In the old version, the display would change to the original field setting when changing views.

If you subsequently click on the cogwheel, the chart type can easily be changed. The upgrade also contains new types of charts. Another new possiblity is the ability to select an area to zoom in on (part of the) data.
When using a chart, multiple groups can now be added (for example registration status and the registration date per month)

  • Creating your own calculated fields

There are now more options for creating custom fields. The name of a custom field is shown in the table as well as the crosstab and chart. This allows you to specify reports even more. A more detailed explanation of this functionality will follow soon.
